Children Are People Too: The Importance of Childhood and Spirituality

When we look at our ability to consciously choose our life experiences, we often assume that this is done in adulthood. People often hold the view of being an ‘adult’ at a higher point than being a ‘child’. We believe that children have less capacity to choose wise life experiences, that there is much that they do not understand, and that many children are incapable of logical thinking. Perhaps in a physical sense this is somewhat true but it is only their lack of experience in the physical world that limits their understanding.

In contrast, on a spiritual level, children have a far greater understanding of the spiritual truths because of this lack of physical experiences. Until children begin to experience the unconscious conditionings of the physical world, they are still very much connected to the Creator and the true laws of life. So when we believe that ‘good’ decisions can only be made by adults, we seem to forget the impact of childhood on adulthood. We cannot become conscious adults without first becoming conscious children. It simply doesn’t work that way in either the physical or spiritual levels. It’s crucial for us all to understand the importance of childhood.
